A Surprise Geomagnetic Storm

On April 20, 2020, space weather watchers were caught by surprise by the first geomagnetic storm of the year, which caused bright aurora observed over Canada and some northern US states. Shown above are real-time solar wind data from ACE showing a maximum BZ of about -15nT. Similar real-time data were recorded by NOAA's DSCOVR Satellite (please see https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/real-time-solar-wind).
