	Pass Summary:
Station Keeping maneuver 5 performed nominally.

During the Attitude Reorientation maneuver, FDF analysts described seeing
thrusters firing asynchronously which could cause excessive nutation. A
thruster abort was issued. The maneuver terminated on the 14th of 16 repeat
counts and was eventually determined to be successful (though terminated,
the result was near the original desired effect and with no signs of
excessive nutation). Following the thruster abort, the Attitude
Determination System (ADS) software calculated an incorrect spin rate of
3.75 instead of the nominal 4.99. Telemetry indicated that the spin rate
was 4.99.

At the time, this anomaly was determined to be a ground system anomaly
(TPOCC system lagging with page updates and ADS software computing
incorrect spin rate). On day 160 (June 9) it was thought to be a spacecraft
anomaly (see day 160 pass plan).

The spin rate is calculated using the sun pulse which the Command and Data
Handling (C&DH) system generates from sun sensor data. It was later
determined that the anomalous spin rate was due to incorrect sun pulse
generation (The C&DH processing of sun sensor data was in a frozen state).
While the FOT doesn't directly monitor this information, a valid sun pulse
is necessary to perform maneuvers and is used by science teams for tagging
data collection times and instrument cycles.

	                   DSS-16 16:45:09 22:04:30

	Pass Summary:
Continued to analyze the anomaly seen on day 156 (day of last
maneuver). Originally thought to be a ground system anomaly, it was
determined on day 159 to be a spacecraft anomaly.

Anomaly background: On day 156 a station keeping maneuver was
performed successfully. Following the SK maneuver, an attitude maneuver was
started.

During the attitude maneuver, data lead the analysts to believe
that the thrusters were not firing synchronously which would have caused
nutation. Following the issuing of a thruster abort command, the spin rate
generated by ADS was not as expected.

Upon further analysis, it was determined that the CDH component was
not processing the sun sensor data correctly. This was traced to a
potential timing problem in the CDH sun sensor processing code. Potenial
fixes are still being analyzed.

Current anlaysis of the sun sensor processing in the CDH has led to
questions regarding the validity of the sun pulse. The spin rate is
calculated using the sun pulse which the Command and Data Handling (C&DH)
system generates from sun sensor data. It was determined that the anomalous
spin rate was due to incorrect sun pulse generation (The C&DH processing of
sun sensor data was in a frozen state). While the FOT doesn't directly
monitor this information, a valid sun pulse is necessary to perform
maneuvers and is used by science teams for tagging data collection times
and instrument cycles.

Some attempts have been made to correct the problem (while avoiding
severely affecting the nominal s/c operations) without much success.
Further attempts will be made in order of increasing severity.

In the mean time, the s/c High Gain Antenna field of view is
drifting out of view. A maneuver was originally scheduled for day 161 to
bring the HGA back into view. Nominally, all attitude reorientation burns
have been executed using a valid sun pulse as the reference.

Attempts at correcting the anomaly included: cycling the data
formats, sending an unlock command, and sending a thruster abort command
and the associated telltale clear command.

In addition, initial steps were taken to allow future, more severe
steps to be accomplished. The memory location of the suspect sun sensor
processing state was dumped with the hopes that the location can be poked
later with the correct processing state.

The information in this memory location was not as expected.
Analysis is ongoing.

The Last Resort Timer is usually reset at the beginning and end of
every pass on both the active and inactive CDH's. As a last resort, this
timer will cause a CDH reset after 96 hours have expired since the last
reset.

The potential need to have the CDH reset to fix the anomaly has
resulted in the active CDH Last Resort Timer to NOT be reset. Thus a CDH
reset would occur at 15:36 on Friday, June 12 (96 hours from last reset).
This can be reset at any time during a pass.

In addition, the current method of switching data rates with s/c
time tag bins has been changed. Due to the HGA being out of view, the high
data rate cannot be supported and thus the recorder cannot be dumped again
until the HGA is back in view.

This can only be accomplished by a maneuver or by naturally
drifting back into view. Until a maneuver can be accomplished, the s/c
antenna configuration has been changed to allow view over a longer period
of time (approx. two weeks).

This antenna configuration limits the spacecraft operations to
being performed in the low data rate.

NOTE: THIS ANOMALY WAS EVENTUALLY RESOLVED ON DAY 163! SEE DAILY REPORT.

Recorder SSR A filled up overnight and SSR B automatically began recording.
Tried cycling sun sensor off/on and C&DH A to Reduced/Full Data Collection
and Disabled/enabled to "jostle" C&DH into generating correct sun pulses
(Changing the data collection to reduced causes spin clock and sun pulse
signals to be left inactive while disabling data collection causes sun
pulse signals not to be collected). This was not effective as sun pulses
were still not being generated correctly and the "stuck" telemetry bits
remained unchanged.

Scheduled CDH reset not executed - Memory poke to EEPROM address H'EE58' on
RAM page 1 executed successfully. This poke to the C&DH memory appeared to
change the sun sensor processing state and valid sun pulses are being
generated. The Last Resort Timer was then reset about an hour before the
C&DH A reset would have taken place. An engineering burn was executed
following the receipt of valid sun pulses to make sure everything is
operating nominally. A larger maneuver was then executed to bring ACE back
into the HGA constraint. It was determined that SSR B should be placed in
RECORD and all data from SSR A should be dumped. All Data on SSR B will be
lost. Dumped SSR A data, abort bit issued and remainder of data will be
retrieved on Day 164. It was attempted to command some instruments back to

Pass Summary: Today's ACE pass was changed late yesterday due to
another spacecraft's request for emergency support to analyze their
anomaly. This resulted in the spacecraft switching to high rate 5 minutes
prior to the old pass start time (12:50) which means that for approximately
43 minutes, NOAA would not have received data as ACE was in the high data
rate. The change in pass time did not affect flight operations. There was a
packet extractor crash which caused an eight minute outage. SSR data was
recovered successfully.
