SEPICA's isobutane gas was finally depleted on 08/07/2010 and SEPICA recently switched to Standby Mode on 03/22/2011 and 04/04/2011. ACE has a significant power margin (solar panels generate ~475 watts, spacecraft uses ~250 watts); but SEPICA's ~14 Watts of power adds to the instrument deck temperature. The high instrument deck temperature is a concern for other instrument teams. The attached file (ACE_instrument_deck.gif) shows SEPICA and the other instruments. The instruments surrounding SEPICA are: ULEIS, ULEIS DPU, ULEIS electronics, MAG MFI, S3DPU, SWICS and SWEPAM-E. SIS benefits from a lower temperature, but SIS is on the other side of the instrument deck. The following provides a few temperature readings (Celsius) from the instrument deck when SEPICA was ON (~14 Watts), in STANDBY (~5 Watts) and OFF (0 Watts). WARNING: The following table is based on limited data since SEPICA has only been OFF for 6 days. The spacecraft attitude has a large affect on temperatures. The instrument deck has a lower temperature (2-4C) when the spacecraft is pointing directly at the sun and, by coincidence, this occurred when SEPICA was in Standby and was OFF. Therefore, the following data is biased and longer term data will very likely show a smaller difference. DOY 110 04/20/2011 S-ACE-0605 G11-0032 ACE_PASS Started for Test The MMOC scheduling tool (dsn_sched_cron) excludes any pass with "TEST" in the activity description. A DSN test had the activity "APCA A/TEST SHDW". Because TEST wasn't a separate work, dsn_sched_cron started the ACE_PASS procedure. IMPACT: The ACE_PASS procedure stopped near the beginning and no activities were performed.
