The next attitude maneuver is scheduled for Wednesday 08/03/2011. ======================================================================= OCRs: None ======================================================================== Activities: Data Capture: 100% DOY 198-205 2011 The GRAIL mission is expected to launch 09/08/2011. ACE has reduced DSN antenna time during September. The current schedule has ACE losing ~15% data over 3 weeks in September. The data loss will be greater if there are problems with any of the passes. The new network from the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) was successfully tested on Friday 07/22/2011. NOAA SWPC requests time with AFSCN when the 3 main site have problems (NICT/Japan, DLR/Germany, WCDA/Wallops). The old network from AFSCN to NOAA SWPC was disconnected on 9/1/2010 with the closing of the Onizuka Air Force Base. A combination of Air Force approval and funding issues were the reasons that it took a year to implement the new network. DSN ground station DSS-27 returned to service on Monday 07/25/2011. DSS-27 had been down for 4 weeks (since 6/27/2011) for an Antenna Controller Replacement (ACR), a 250-Watt S-Band Uplink Install and Cable Wrap Protection. Fortunately, ACE was able to acquire antenna time on other DSN stations during this time. (ACE did give up passes on 7/7/2011 and 7/9/2011 for the Chandra mission while they were in safe-mode. That only resulted in data loss when DSN had problems on 7/8/2011.) A DSS-27 Return To Service Demo was performed on Tuesday 7/19/2011. The MMOC automation took the pass and no obvious problems were found. The DSS-27 antenna previously had a 200 Watt transmitter that has now been upgraded to 250 Watt. The 25% increase in transmitter performance will only result in an extra 1 dBm. ACE uses the same DSN configuration for DSS-27, DSS-45 and DSS-65. DSS-45 and DSS-65 already have 250 Watt transmitters, but had been limited to 200 Watts for consistent ACE configurations. All 3 (27,45,65) will now be be configured for 250 Watts starting on 7/19/2011 (DSN OPD-ACE-018). The following table shows the 6 DSN ground antennas that ACE uses. The signal strength for the HGA depends on the HGA angle and the values given are averages. The extra 1 dBm from the 250 Watt DSN transmitters will be a minimal benefit.
