ACE/MAG Release Notes: The following are cummulative release notes for the ACE Magnetic Field Instrument (MAG) Level-2 datasets with 1-sec resolution. As new datasets are released or old datasets are processed, this file will be updated. While MAG uses a badpoint fill value of -999.9, there are occasional minor frames of data with values (0,0,0). The source of this has never been determined and they can be found in the 1-s data. Data where all 3 components of the IMF are "0" should be treated as bad. Note: The ACE spin period is 12 seconds. Consequently, a spin tone can be seen at 1/12 = 0.083 Hz, the amplitude of which is a measure of the inaccuracy of the instrument zeroes. We now recognize that fluctuations in the MAG calibration analysis previously attributed to "noise" is, in fact, strongly correlated to the inclination angle of the Sun upon the solar arrays. As a result this very-low-frequency sawtooth signal can be modeled and removed. We are working on this and hope to have it available in a general reanalysis of the data planned for the near future.
