This is a quick reference guide to the sea of acronymns which can confound anyone not intimately familiar with the project at hand. Listed in alphabetical order below, are the ones that will be most often encountered in Galileo HIC related documentation and literature.

AACS: Attitude Adjustment Control System
APID: Application Identification
AQQC: Advanced Quality, Quantity, Continuity (A DMT check on IPF data)
CDS: Central Data System
CHDO: Compressed Header Data Objects
DMT: Data Management Team (JPL)
DSN: Deep Space Network
EDR: Experiment Data Record
ERT: Earth Received Time
FHP: Final HIC Packet
GAB: Galileo Adapter Board
GIF: Ground Communications Interface Facility
GLLSVC: Galileo Science Vax Cluster
HET: High Energy Telescope (See LET E)
HIC: Heavy Ion Counter
IPF: Instrument Packet File
LET: Low Energy Telescope
- LET B: Detects ions with energies down to 6 MeV/nucleon.
- LET E: Detects ions with energies of 15-200 MeV/nucleon. Connected to electronics similar to those use for Voyager's HETs.
LRS: Low Rate Science (associated with Galileo's old telemetry scheme)
MGDS: Multimission Ground Data System
MTS: Mission Telemetry Subsystem
NICKET: Enhanced HIC Packet
PDS: Planetary Data System
PICKET: Polished HIC Packet
QIPF: Quick Look Instrument Packet File
QQC: Quantity, Quality, and Continuity (a data check operation performed by the DMT)
RHP: Raw HIC Packet
SCET: Space Craft Event Time
SDR: System Data Record
SCLK: Space Craft Time
SFDU: Standard Format Data Unit
SI: Subcommutation Index
SRD: Science Requirements Document
TIS: Telemetry Input Subsystem
VCDU: Virtual Channel Data Unit
WDPEN: Wide Penetrating (Event Type)
WDSTP: Wide Stopping (Event Type)
