This plot shows the world-wide network of gravitational wave observatories currently in operation (LIGO, GEO and TAMA), being built (VIRGO) or planned (LISA, in space). The ground-based observations will work as a network, allowing the independent confirmation of measured events, and the estimation of source directions (unlike telescopes single interferometers cannot be pointed and they are not sensitive to source direction).
