====================================================================== P60 Group Meeting 10 July 2003 Present: Fiona, Brad, Hal, Vinod, Derek, Marco, Danny Guzman At Palomar: John Henning, Bob Thicksten ====================================================================== Mechanical Systems: Hal Petrie has sent mechanical drawings to John Henning, they will be meeting to discuss these within a week. Marco Bonatti has received the details of the filter wheel serial interface, and is awaiting the decision on whether the current filter wheel will be used or replaced. Hal discussed the necessary mechanical adjustments that would be necessary to allow a new filter wheel to be adjusted by hand at the telescope. TCS Wiring: John Henning reported that the focus motor had been wired and that the wiring of the dome flat lamps was in progress. In addition, the current focus encoder will be replaced by a linear absolute encoder (reading out the secondary position) soon which should provide improved precision. Palomar upgrades: Bob Thicksten said that the Palomar team was gathering quotes for the backup power generator for P60. When the mirrors are realuminized, temperature sensors for the primary and secondary mirrors will be installed. Plans for a fire and security system for the P60 dome are under discussion with Brucato and Ellis. Camera: Marco Bonatti reported that the camera is working as planned from a software point of view. "Real images" are needed to do an end-to-end test, however. Observing software: Derek and Brad are continuing work on the observing control software and scheduling system. Archival services: Fiona reported briefly on a meeting with IPAC (summarized in her subsequent email) to discuss a P60 collaboration. Work is continuing towards this end. The basic plan is that in return for a 10% share of observing time, IPAC will provide a full data archive with web-based search and retrieval of all P60 data. P60 Scheduling: Bob Thicksten reported that a planned eyepiece-observing date on July 26 had been cancelled so that it was now possible (although not necessary) to move up the realuminization of the P60 mirrors, to begin as early as July 21. The last scheduled observers currently (Echelle mode) are July 19 and 20. Derek stated the intention of Brad Cenko, Vinod Devanathan, and himself to travel to Palomar and make some automation, pointing, and focus checks during the week of July 14.
