P60 Meeting 7 August 2003 ==================== Present: Derek, Brad, John Clemick Palomar: Mike Doyle, John Henning P60 Status ============== Mike: Bob has been working hard on the optics. Putting the secondary mirror in, possibly testing by tomorrow night. JH: TCS upgrades: From the list that was circulted, the first group is now complete except for item 5 (= "defeat manual control during automatic operation"). GXN interface work is now complete except for the "information" command. However, none of the changes since last week have been tested on the actual telescope (as it has been locked down). Derek: John, since you will be leaving on vacation next week, if you are not able to test the new software, do you think it would be possible to revert to the last tested/used versions? JH: Yes, I can do that. You would lose the new capabilities however. Note that we now have a Polycom videoconference setup working in the P60 control room. Camera / Electronics ==================== John: Two parts on rush for Ernest, should be done tomorrow. Cables have arrived, everything is coming along. Meeting tomorrow with Jill -- will send everyone an email on status after that. Palomar Planning ================ Mike Doyle: The current 60-inch schedule for August has an Echelle Spectrograph observer on the nights of Aug 29-31. Other than that the schedule is free. Derek: What is the status of the safety upgrades? Mike: The horn is in place. Merle Sweet is soliciting bids on the backup generator. I have been working on the wind-screen encoder system and it is coming along, should be done in a couple of days. Also, the weather station is getting upgraded to report more information from the thermal sensors. Derek: Brad and I are thinking of coming up to the telescope next week to execute some more tests, including tests of the scheduling software. In addition, we have a Linux box / analysis machine here at Caltech that we can install in the P60 control room. JH: Sounds good, you should check with Palomar staff ahead of time to get some help starting up the systems, if I am not around.
