Professor of Physics




Much of my current research involves the Palomar Transient Factory

In the past, I worked on low-frequency gravitational wave astronomy
as U.S. co-chair of the LISA International Science Team

Other areas of my research have included: cosmic-ray
astrophysics, gamma-ray astronomy, radio-pulsar astronomy,
high-performance computation and virtual observatories

Teaching and Professional Activities

I am Director of the W. M. Keck Institute for Space Studies

I teach Introduction to Research in Physics (Ph 10)
and Introductory Computational Physics (Ph 20, 21 & 22)

I was the Chief Scientist of JPL during the period 2001-2006
